Kiran Hardware

Waluj MIDC is a very dusty place most of the year. The trucks driving near Ambedkar Chowk kick up a lot of dirt into the air. Our shop is right in the middle of it. We spend half the morning just wiping down the tools and boxes on the shelves. Hardware is a heavy business to be in. We sell things like hammers, saws, boxes of nails, and parts for the factories nearby. The workers come in during their lunch breaks or after their shifts. They usually need something very specific for a machine that has broken down. We look through the bins to find the right size of bolt or nut. Sometimes we don't have it in stock and we have to get it from the city. That usually takes a couple of days. The air around here always smells like oil and cut metal. It's not a quiet place because of all the industry. My brother and I run the shop together. We drink a lot of water because the tin roof makes it very hot inside during the afternoon. We don't have a big flashing sign, just the name on the front. People find us because we've been here near the chowk for a long time. We stay open late because that's when the shift changes happen. It’s hard work, lifting heavy crates and moving things around the floor. We don't mind the grease. It's just part of the job.
