New Deonandi Rice Centre is located in Chelipura, right across from Hotel Samrat in Aurangabad. If you’re in the 431001 zip code, you’ve probably walked past us a few times. We focus mostly on different kinds of rice, obviously. The smell of the raw grain is something you get used to pretty quickly when you work here every day. We have big bags stacked up high, and I spend a lot of my time moving them around or scooping out exactly how much a customer wants. It’s heavy work, but it keeps you strong. We aren’t trying to be a supermarket or anything fancy. We just provide good staples for the people living around Aurangabad Ho. The street outside is always noisy with rickshaws and motorbikes, especially since we’re near the hotel. Sometimes people come in asking for directions and we help them out while they’re looking at the different varieties we have. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. We don’t spend money on advertising or anything like that. People just know we’re here because we’ve been in this spot for a while. It’s a bit dusty because of the sacks, but that’s just how a rice center is. We keep the scales balanced and the floors swept as much as we can. It’s just us doing our thing day after day.
