Gajanan Dal Mill

Out here in Village Tehri Garhwal, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Gajanan Dal Mill is located right near Amber Road in the Behanwangi Tehsil. If you are driving through Jalna District, you might smell the grain before you see the building. We spend most of our days processing pulses. The machinery is old but it still runs fine if you know how to treat it right. There’s always a fine layer of dust on everything, which is just part of working in a mill. We work with the local farmers who bring in their harvests. Sometimes the yard is full of tractors and carts waiting to unload. It gets quite loud when the engines are all running at once. My brother and I look after the daily operations. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing team. We just rely on the quality of the dal we produce. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a while to get started again. That's just life in the village. We eat our lunch under the shade of the tree outside when it’s too hot indoors. It’s hard work, and your back might ache by the end of the shift, but it feels good to be part of the food supply around here. We just keep the machines humming along.
