Senthil Department Store

If you live in Pappireddipatti, you probably know where we are on Harur Main Road. Senthil Department Store is a family thing, really. We open early because people need their milk and bread before work. It can get pretty crowded in the evenings when everyone is heading home. The shelves are always a bit of a project to keep tidy because kids like to move things around. We try to stock what people actually ask for. If someone wants a specific brand of soap or a certain type of rice, we see if we can get it. It’s a small shop at 84/2, so we have to use every inch of space we have. Sometimes boxes are stacked a bit high in the back. My nephew helps out on the weekends when he isn’t at school. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. It isn’t some giant supermarket where nobody talks to you. We talk about the weather or how the local teams are doing while we bag things up. Occasionally the power goes out and we have to use flashlights for a bit. It’s just part of running a shop in a place like this. We aren't trying to be anything special, just a place where you can get your groceries and go home. We just keep the lights on and keep the items coming in for the neighborhood families who have been shopping with us for years.
