About Saifi Vegetables Mart – Event & Planning in Attapur
If you are walking near Pillar No 176 in Attapur, you will see our crates. We get here very early, usually when it’s still dark, to unload the sacks from the market. The vegetables come in covered in dirt and we have to sort through them. There is a lot of lifting and moving heavy boxes around the shop. It smells like coriander and damp earth in the mornings. We don't have fancy displays, just wooden boards and some plastic sheets to keep things fresh. People from the nearby apartments come in looking for stuff for their dinner. Sometimes the onions are expensive and sometimes they are cheap, we just mark the price and put them out. The floor gets messy with leaves and bits of peel, so we are always sweeping. It is a lot of standing on your feet all day long. We don't do home delivery or anything like that, people just stop by on their way home from work. When the sun goes down, we start packing up what’s left for the day. It is a simple trade. You buy the produce, you clean it up, and you sell it. We don’t have any fancy mission, we just want to sell the stock before it goes soft. My hands are always stained from the vegetables and the crates are heavy, but it is steady work. We keep the scales balanced and the shop open until the last bag is sold.
