Sangeet Sikhhar Asor

Sangeet Sikhhar Asor is tucked away in the Rashdanga By Lane, just off Hutton Road near the bazaar area in Asansol. It's a bit of a hidden spot if you don't know the lanes well. We teach music and arts here. It's not a big institution with a glass front or a fancy lobby. It’s more like a home where people come to learn and practice. You can hear the harmonium or the tabla playing if you walk past in the late evening. We have a few rooms dedicated to different instruments, and the walls are covered with some old photos of musicians that have been there for years. It’s a bit cramped when we have many students at once, but we always find a way to make it work. Most of our students are from the nearby bazaar area or living further down Hutton Road. We don't have a fancy reception desk or a secretary. You just walk in and talk to whoever is available at the time. Sometimes there’s tea being made in the back and the smell drifts through the rooms. It’s a very informal atmosphere. We don't use much advertising; people usually find us through their neighbors or friends. The floors are simple, and we sit on mats for many of our sessions because it keeps the traditional feel alive. We aren't trying to be a corporate music school. We just want to keep the music going in our small corner of Asansol. It’s a place with a lot of soul, even if the paint is peeling in some corners.
