Little Angel School is based in Chanchani 3 No., Ukhra, which is part of the Asansol region. It’s a bit of an older neighborhood, and the school fits right in. We have a lot of local families who send their children here. The building isn’t new or shiny, but it’s sturdy and does the job. Most of the kids come from the nearby houses in Ukhra. Every morning is a bit of a scramble getting everyone into their classrooms. We have the primary sections where it’s mostly singing and learning to write, and then the slightly older kids who have more books to carry. The schoolyard is where everyone gathers for the morning prayer. It’s a simple place with whitewashed walls and wooden benches that have seen a lot of use over the years. We don’t have any high-tech gadgets or air conditioning; we just use the windows and the fans. Asansol can be a busy industrial area, but our little corner in Ukhra is a bit more settled. The teachers here have been around for years and they know most of the parents by name. We just focus on the daily lessons and making sure the kids understand what’s in their textbooks. It’s a lot of repetition and quiet work. When the day ends, the kids spill out onto the street and things get quiet until the next morning.
