Our place is situated at F 1/3 in T.S.N. Nagar, right within the ICL Colony in Dalavoi. Since we are based in the colony itself, most of our neighbors are also working in the same line of business as we are. It’s a quiet enough area until the trucks start moving early in the morning. We handle the local operations for India Cements here in this part of Tamil Nadu. The office is part of the residential layout, so it has a very casual and local feel to it. We don't wear suits or have big formal meetings; we just sit down with the delivery notes and make sure every bag is accounted for. There is usually a lot of talk among the staff about the weather and how it might affect the transport schedules for the week. When the monsoon rain comes, we have to be extra careful with the storage areas to keep everything dry. Our team is quite small, mostly made up of people who live right here in the colony or just a short bike ride away. We’ve seen the town and the colony grow quite a bit over the years as more building happens in the region. It is simple, honest work, checking the inventory and talking to the drivers who come in from the main plant. We keep things pretty informal but we make sure the numbers are right at the end of every day. It’s a practical way to live and work, and we like being so close to the actual operations.
