About Dalmia Refractories Ltd – Metals & Minerals in Ariyalur
Down here in Dalmiapuram, life revolves a lot around the plant. We are located near Po. Kallakudi. It’s an old place, honestly. You can see the dust on the windows most days and the paint is peeling in a few spots. We make heat-resistant materials, mostly bricks and liners for big furnaces. It is hot work, especially in the summer months when the humidity kicks in. Most of us live right nearby in the colony or the surrounding villages. The office isn't much to look at, just desks and old filing cabinets that have been there since the seventies. We've got a rhythm to the day. The trucks come in early, and we spend the morning sorting out orders and checking the inventory lists. It’s steady work. My dad worked here before me, and that's how it is for a lot of the guys on the floor. We aren't trying to be anything special, just getting the refractory stuff out to where it needs to go. Sometimes the machinery breaks down and we spend half the day fixing it with whatever tools we have on hand. That’s just part of the job. We drink a lot of tea in the breakroom during the afternoon lull. The address is Dalmiapuram, and everyone around here knows where that is. It’s a quiet town except for the noise from the factory. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s been that way for a long time now and we're used to it.
