Om Saravana Steel

Our place is in the Chettiar Complex. If you know Viragnur, you probably know where the complex is. We are at 4/103. It's a solid building. Om Saravana Steel has been here for some time. Dealing with steel means a lot of heavy lifting. It's noisy sometimes when the trucks unload. We wear old clothes because things get messy. There is a small tea shop nearby where we go for breaks. Usually, it’s just me and a couple of others working the floor. We don't have much of a waiting area, just a few plastic chairs. The sun hits the front of the shop in the afternoon, making it quite warm. We keep our stock stacked up high. You have to be careful walking around. It’s a lot of metal, after all. We talk to contractors and local builders mostly. They know what they need and we try to have it ready. We don't use a computer for everything, still have some ledgers. It feels more real that way. Sometimes the phone rings and we can't hear it over the noise. We just call back when it gets quiet. It’s honest work. Nothing fancy about it. Just local guys doing a job in Viragnur. We’ve been here through the rains and the heat. The floor is concrete and has some cracks, but it holds up well enough for what we do.
