New Rathna Sweets

If you go down Kamarajar Salai and turn into Vengatapathy Iyengar Lane, you’ll find us at 29/A. That’s where New Rathna Sweets is located. The lane is pretty narrow, so it’s mostly just foot traffic and the occasional bike coming through. We’ve been at 29/A for a while, and the building has that old feel to it that you only get in this part of town. Every morning starts the same way, getting the kitchen ready and making sure the counters are clean. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy pots and keeping an eye on the stove. We don't have a big fancy storefront with glass walls. It’s more of a traditional setup where you can see the work happening if you peek in the back. The air always smells like sugar and milk, which isn't a bad way to spend the day. Sometimes the lane gets crowded during festival times, and we have to work extra hard to keep up with everyone coming by. We don't use any high-tech machines, just the same tools we’ve used for years. The staff is mostly local people who’ve been with us for a long time. We don't spend money on ads or big signs. People just know where 29/A is and they come by when they want something. It’s a simple life, and we like the neighborhood vibe of Kamarajar Salai.
