Shitlal Singh Foundation

You can find the Shitlal Singh Foundation out in Pithaura village, which is part of the Narpatganj block in Araria. Our house number is 915, and that’s where all our work happens. We are deep in the rural side of Bihar, 854335 zip code, so it’s a very different world from the big towns. Most of us here are locals who have lived in Pithaura our whole lives. We started this foundation because we saw things that needed fixing right in our own backyard. Our office is just a part of the house where we keep all our papers and meet with the villagers. There’s no lobby or fancy chairs, just whatever we have around. We spend a lot of time walking around the village talking to our neighbors. It’s very informal. If someone has a problem, they just come by the house and we sit on the porch to talk about it. We don't have a big website or anything like that. We just do the work that needs to be done. Araria is a humble place, and we try to keep our foundation humble too. It’s just a group of friends and family trying to do something decent for the village. We take things one day at a time and try to help where we can. It is just life here.
