The yard here on Hanumangarh Road is almost always covered in a thin layer of grey dust. That is just the way it is when you are dealing with cement, sand, and bricks all day long. We are situated right near the Sub Mandi Yard, so there are always tractors and big lorries rumbling past our gate. It is a noisy spot, especially when we are running the loader or moving stacks of tiles around. We spend most of our time outside in the sun, which can get pretty brutal during the summer months. There is a small cabin where we keep the books, but mostly we are out there on the dirt, talking to contractors or helping someone load up their trailer. The gate squeaks every time it opens, and the phone rings more than it should, but we keep up with it. We don't bother with fancy uniforms; usually, we are just in old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. Building things is messy work, and we see the start of it every day. People come to us when they are adding a room to their house or fixing a wall. We just give them what they need and send them on their way. It is not a complicated life, but it is a busy one. By the time we lock up at night, we are usually pretty tired and covered in grit, but there is always more material arriving first thing in the morning.
