Our small office is over at Ranjit Mohapatra’s place in Khandiabandha. It’s a quiet area near Gopinathpur, which is nice because it gets us away from the main road noise for a bit. Working in construction means we are rarely just sitting still though. Most days involve a lot of walking around different sites and checking on how the foundation is looking or if the roofers arrived on time. We handle various building jobs around here, mostly just regular stuff that people need done in their local neighborhoods. There are always challenges, like when the truck carrying sand gets stuck or someone forgets a specific tool back at the storage shed. We don’t have a big corporate lobby or a receptionist; it’s just us and the paperwork piled up on a wooden table. Usually, we start quite early before the sun gets too hot, especially during the summer months when working outside feels like standing in an oven. Being based in Khandiabandha means we know the local suppliers pretty well, which helps when we need something in a hurry. It isn't a glamorous life, but it keeps us busy and we like the feeling of finishing a project and moving on to the next one. We spend a lot of time talking to the workers and making sure everyone has what they need to keep moving. Sometimes things go slow and sometimes they go fast, that’s just the way it works here. It's just simple work.
