Our place is out at 4606 in the GIDC Estate. Sigma Scientific Glass Pvt. Ltd. is where we spend our days dealing with a lot of heat and very fragile things. We work with glass tubes and all sorts of laboratory stuff. It’s a noisy environment because of the burners and the cooling fans running all the time. You have to be careful where you step because there might be a stray shard on the floor. We aren't a big corporate office. We’re just a bunch of people who know how to shape glass without it cracking. Some of the equipment we use is pretty old, but it still does the job just fine. The warehouse part of the building is filled with boxes of beakers and specialized pipes ready to be shipped out to hospitals or schools. It’s often quite hot inside, especially near the furnaces. We don’t wear suits here; it’s mostly just work clothes that can stand a bit of singeing. Sometimes a whole batch breaks and we have to start all over again, which is frustrating but part of the trade. We’ve been in this spot in GIDC for years. We know the security guards at the gate and the guys at the tea stall nearby. It’s a practical life, making tools that other people use for their experiments. We just focus on getting the measurements right and making sure the glass is clear enough for the technicians to see through.
