Working at Advance Paint means you’re always surrounded by different smells. Some days it’s the strong scent of thinners, and other days it’s the thick, sweet smell of fresh pigment. Our place at Plot No. 3202/A in the GIDC estate is where we mix everything up. We have these big vats where the colors swirl around, and you have to be careful not to spill, though accidents happen all the time. The floor is covered in layers of old paint drops that have dried over the years. It’s like a history of every color we’ve ever made. We aren't a giant corporation with robots doing everything. We have people who actually watch the batches and check the thickness with their own hands. Sometimes the power goes out in the estate and we all just have to sit around and wait for it to come back on, which gives us a chance to catch up on some gossip. We don't really bother with fancy packaging or high-end offices. Most of our money goes into buying the raw materials we need. It’s a messy business, but it’s ours. We try to get the orders right, but sometimes the labels get stuck on crooked or a tin gets a little dented during packing. As long as what's inside the can is good, we figure the rest isn't as important.
