Our place at Plot No. 4929-A is where we spend almost all our time. It’s a practical space, mostly filled with shelves and tools that we’ve gathered over the years. You won't find any leather chairs or carpets here. The floor is concrete and shows the marks of every crate we’ve ever moved. We handle a lot of abrasive materials, so there’s always a bit of grit in the air and on the workbenches. It’s just the nature of the business. We started out small and stayed that way because it’s easier to manage things ourselves. When someone calls, they usually talk to me or one of the guys who’s actually holding a wrench. We don’t have a receptionist sitting at a desk. The paperwork gets done on a wooden table in the corner when we have a spare moment. It’s noisy because of the grinders, but you get used to that after a week. Most of our days are spent organizing the stock and making sure the orders for the tools are ready for the morning pickup. We’ve seen other shops come and go around the plot, but we’ve managed to keep our doors open by just sticking to what we know. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s ours. We drink a lot of water because of the dust and keep the doors open for whatever breeze comes through.
