If you drive down NH-8, you’ll find us at Plot 3-A. We are Laxmi Auto Body Builders, and the place is basically a large open yard with a high roof over the main work area. Being right on the highway means we get a lot of dust and noise from the passing trucks all day long. The ground is mostly dirt and gravel, which turns into a bit of a mess when it rains, but that’s just the nature of the job. We spend our time welding steel frames and fitting panels onto truck chassis. There is always the sound of hammers hitting metal or the bright flash of a welding torch going off. It’s hard on the eyes and the back, but we’ve been doing it for years. Most of our tools are old and well-worn because we prefer things that don’t break easily. We don't have a waiting room or a receptionist. If a driver brings a truck in, he usually just hangs out under the shade of a tree or sits on a wooden bench while we talk about the work. It’s a straightforward operation. We build the bodies, paint them, and send them back out on the road. It’s honest work and keeps us busy from dawn till dusk.
