Ami Varsha Tarpouline is located at Plot No. A-1, 163, and if you come by, you’ll likely see big rolls of heavy material stacked up everywhere. The smell of the fabric and the waterproof coatings is the first thing you notice when you walk in. It’s a specific kind of smell, a bit like plastic and wax, and it stays on your clothes long after you leave for the day. We spend our hours measuring out huge sheets and making sure the eyelets are punched in properly so they don’t rip when the wind catches them. It’s a lot of physical labor, pulling those heavy covers across the floor to get the seams right. During the rainy season, things get incredibly hectic here because everyone suddenly remembers they need to cover their roof or their truck. We don't have a lot of space for a fancy office, so the desk is basically tucked into a corner surrounded by scraps of material and rolls of string. Sometimes the stitching machines act up, and we have to spend an hour or two getting the tension back to where it should be. It’s just how it goes in a small shop like this. We’ve been at this for a while, and the floor is a bit scuffed from all the sliding of the tarps, but it’s a good place to work. We just focus on getting the covers ready for whoever needs them without any delay.
