Bright Bar Manufacturing Company

You can find us over at the GIDC Estate, right across from the GIDC Bus Depot on the Old National Highway 8. It’s a loud spot with all the buses and trucks rumbling by all day. We manufacture bright bars here, which basically means we spend our time processing steel until it’s the right size and finish. The floor is always covered in metal shavings and there’s a smell of industrial oil in the air, but that’s what a manufacturing plant is supposed to be like. We don't have a polished front office. Most people just walk right into the workshop to find us. We’ve got some old machines that still work perfectly and some newer ones that we’re still getting used to. It’s a bit hot in the afternoons, especially when the sun hits the metal roof. We just keep the fans going and get the work done. The bus depot across the street is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. We aren't doing anything revolutionary, just making sure the bars we produce are straight and meet the specs we were given. It’s a lot of physical work and keeping an eye on the gauges. We’ve been in this spot for years and the rhythm of the highway feels like home now. The evening shift usually starts just as the traffic peaks outside.
