Ankit Press

Ankit Press is situated right near the Girls High School and the main bus stand. It’s a very loud spot because of all the buses honking and the students walking past in big groups every afternoon. We are also quite close to Hotel Sahnti, so we see some travelers too. The press itself is an old-fashioned kind of place. We have these big machines that make a lot of noise when they’re running, but they do the job well enough. The smell of ink is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We spend a lot of time cleaning the rollers and moving heavy stacks of paper around. It’s hard work and our clothes usually have a few stains on them by the end of the shift. During the school season, we get a lot of work from the teachers and students. It gets hectic then. We don't have a receptionist or anyone like that. You just walk in and talk to whoever is standing near the front. The floor is concrete and usually covered in paper dust. We’ve been in this location near the bus stand for a long time. It’s convenient for people to drop off work on their way into town. We just keep our heads down and get the printing done. If the power goes out, we just sit outside on the steps and wait for it to come back.
