About New Kashmir Green Bricks – Builders & Developers in Anantnag
Down here in Magam village, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We started New Kashmir Green Bricks because there’s always someone building a house or a wall around here in Baramulla. Our place isn’t anything special to look at, just a lot of red clay and the kilns burning. It’s hard work, especially when the winter sets in and the ground freezes up. We spend most of our days out in the dirt, making sure the bricks are shaped right and dried out enough before they go into the fire. Sometimes the batches don't come out perfectly, maybe a few cracks here and there, but we sort through them by hand. People from the nearby villages come by with their tractors or small trucks to pick up what they need. We don't have a big marketing team or a website. Most of the time, we’re just sitting on some wooden crates talking to neighbors about their building projects. The smoke from the chimney is a familiar sight for everyone in this part of Magam. We just try to keep the supply steady so nobody’s project gets stuck waiting for materials. It’s a dirty job and we go home covered in red dust every evening, but it feels okay to see the houses in the district being built with stuff we made right here. It is just a regular way to make a living and help people get their homes finished.
