Cakes & Bakes

Cakes & Bakes is a bit of a landmark for people driving through Anantnag. We are situated right near the National Highway, which makes us a convenient stop for anyone traveling long distances. It’s a simple shop, mostly smelling like fresh bread and sugar from early in the morning. We do all the baking in the back, mostly cakes for local celebrations and bread that we sell to people living nearby. The place isn't very large, just enough room for the ovens and a couple of glass counters where we display what’s fresh that day. Sometimes the highway is really busy and we get a lot of travelers popping in for a quick snack, while other days it’s just our regular neighbors from the district. We don't have fancy packaging or anything like that. We just put the stuff in bags and boxes and send people on their way. It’s a family-run kind of vibe where everyone does a bit of everything, from mixing the dough to cleaning the floors at the end of the shift. Being out here in Anantnag, we’ve become part of the daily routine for a lot of people. It’s a honest way to earn a living, and we enjoy seeing the same faces coming back for their favorite treats every week. We try to keep the shelves stocked, but on busy weekends, we often run out of the popular items by midday.
