If you walk down Nagamsassa Vaedi, you’ll hear us before you see us. Siva Sai Subramanya Flour Mill is located at Door No -11-6-67/A, and that big machine of ours makes quite a hum. Everything in here is covered in a fine layer of white dust, no matter how much we sweep. It’s just the nature of milling grain. We spend our hours pouring sacks of wheat or chilies into the hopper and watching it come out the other side. My hair and eyelashes are usually white by noon. It’s a loud place, so we have to shout a bit to hear each other over the grinding stones. People from around Nagamsassa Vaedi bring their own bags of grain for us to process. We weigh them, grind them, and hand them back. It’s simple, repetitive work, but people need their flour for their daily meals. We don't have any fancy packaging or a website. We just have the mill and a scale. Sometimes the power goes out and we all have to sit and wait, which gives us a chance to talk to the customers waiting in line. We’ve been at this door number for a long time. The equipment is old and needs a lot of oiling and care, but it still does the job. It’s a bit messy and very noisy, but it’s how we make a living here. We just stay focused on the grain and the customers.
