Our office is located in Anantapur, and it’s basically run out of the family spot. Balaram Barik is the name on the door, and we’ve been working from here for quite a while. Anantapur is a dry place, so we spend a lot of time making sure we have enough water and that the office stays cool during the afternoon. We don't have a big staff or a fancy boardroom. It’s mostly just a few chairs around a main table where we look at documents and talk about what needs to happen next. The social welfare work we do is very local. People from the village come by when they have a problem or need some help with their papers. We know almost everyone who walks through the door by their first name. It’s not a formal environment at all. Sometimes there are kids playing nearby or neighbors stopping in to share some news. We keep our records in big metal cupboards and try to stay as organized as we can, though it gets a bit hectic when multiple people show up at once. We don’t use any marketing tricks or try to sound bigger than we are. We are just a small association trying to make things a little better for the people around us. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. We just take it one day at a time.
