Laxmi Narashima Chilly Powder

We are located right near the bus stop in Kalugotla village. It is a busy spot because people are always coming and going from Monganuru. Our shop, Laxmi Narashima Chilly Powder, is easy to find because you can usually smell the spices before you even see the sign. We spend most of our mornings getting the machines ready. Once the sun comes in through the front door around ten o'clock, it gets quite warm inside. Having been in this spot for a long time, we have seen the village change around us. The floor is made of concrete and it has some cracks from where we moved the heavy equipment years ago. Most of our day is spent watching the bags fill up and sealing them. Because the dust from the chillies makes everyone sneeze, we keep the back window open even when it is raining. Over in the corner, there is a small wooden desk where we keep the notebook for all our orders. It’s not a fancy place by any means. We just have our grinders and the weighing scale. When the bus pulls in, a few people usually stick their heads in to say hello or ask about the price of a kilo. Not having a big staff, there are just a few of us who know how to handle the heat of the spices. The walls used to be white but now they have a reddish tint. We just keep working until the last bus leaves.
