Our place is tucked away in Ward No. 8 over in the Anand Nagar area of Boda Bag. It’s a neighborhood spot where you mostly see the same faces every single day. We don’t have those big glass walls or shiny floors you see in the city malls. It is just a regular building where we keep the groceries and household stuff people need. Most of the morning is spent dragging bags of rice and flour from the delivery truck into the storage room. It’s dusty work and usually makes us pretty tired by noon. We try to keep things in order, but with so many small items, something is always ending up in the wrong place. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, though you get the occasional loud motorbike passing by. We have a few fans going to keep the air moving because it gets quite stuffy in the afternoons. Sometimes we just sit on the stools near the counter and wait for the evening rush to start. We don't use any big complicated systems, just a basic way of keeping track of what’s on the shelves. If someone asks for something we don’t have, we just make a note on a scrap of paper for the next order. It is a very hands-on way of working. There are no suits or big meetings here, just us in our everyday clothes trying to get through the list of chores for the day.
