About Viram Iron Works – Metals & Minerals in Anand
You can find us at Plot No. I-69 in Phase-IV of the GIDC Estate. Viram Iron Works is basically a big shed full of metal and tools. It gets loud here because of all the cutting and welding, but that is how it goes in an iron shop. We spend most of our time moving heavy pieces around and making sure the measurements are right. The floor is usually covered in iron dust and scraps, which we sweep up at the end of the day. It is a gritty job. My hands are always stained with grease or rust by noon. We don’t spend much time on the computer or answering emails; we are usually out on the floor doing the actual work. The sun hits the metal roof and keeps things pretty warm. We have some old machines that still work better than the new ones. It is just a few of us here making things. Sometimes the local tea stall guy comes by with cutting chai, and that is our break. People come to us when they need something solid made out of iron. We don’t do big advertisements. Most people find us because they saw our gate or heard from someone else in the estate. It is just a straightforward place for metalwork. We keep our tools sharp and our heads down. That is how we have always done it. We just open the gates early and keep working until the light fades out.
