So we set up this shop here in Gamdi, right across from the Bank of Baroda. It's in the Unda Faliya area. You can't really miss it because there are usually a few cars parked out front on the dirt in various states of being fixed. I started this place because I liked messing with engines when I was younger, and now it's just my daily life. My brother helps out with the bodywork and painting whenever we have a big project. It’s a dusty spot, but that’s just how it is being so close to the main road. People from the village come by when their bikes or cars start making those weird knocking noises. We don’t have those high-tech diagnostic computers like the big city dealers. We just use our ears and some basic hand tools to figure things out. Sometimes we have to wait a couple of days for parts to come in on the bus from the city, which slows things down. The tea stall next door is where we spend our breaks, just sitting on the benches. It's not a big showroom with glass windows and air conditioning. It's more of a functional space where we get our hands dirty every day. The floor is stained with oil and there’s a pile of old scrap metal in the corner we really need to haul away. We try to be honest with people. If a car is too far gone, we say so. It's a simple life running a garage in Gamdi.
