Swastic Bricks Co.

Down in Ghunteli, which is in the Petlad Taluka, you will find us at Swastic Bricks Co. It is a very rural area, mostly surrounded by fields and small farms. We have a lot of space out here, which is necessary for a brick company. The air is a bit clearer than in the big cities, though when the kiln is running, there is always a bit of smoke and the smell of burning fuel. We are a small operation, mostly just a few guys from the village and the surrounding areas. Petlad is not too far away, so we get our supplies from there when we need them. The work is seasonal; when the monsoon hits, everything pretty much stops, and we just wait for the ground to dry out. It can be a bit lonely out here sometimes, but we like the peace and quiet of the countryside. Our yard is filled with rows and rows of bricks at different stages of the process. We do not have a website or anything like that; we just talk to the people who come by on their tractors or those who have heard about us through word of mouth. It is an honest way to make a living, even if it is physically demanding and leaves you tired at the end of every day. We just keep moving the earth and making the bricks, year after year, as long as the weather stays good for us.
