It’s a busy area, especially with the hospital nearby, but we like being where the people are. We spend our days thinking about schools and how to help kids get what they need. Sometimes we’re looking at books, other times we are trying to fix up a local space for learning. It is mostly social work, the kind that doesn't get much attention but needs doing anyway. We don't have a big marketing budget or anything like that. The office is pretty humble. We keep things tidy, but there’s always a stack of notebooks or some donated clothes somewhere. People stop by quite a bit, mostly just to chat or ask for advice on where to send their children for extra help. We try to be useful when someone comes through the door. It isn’t always organized perfectly, and some days we’re running behind on the paperwork, but the actual work with the community keeps us going. It’s a local effort, through and through. We know the neighbors and they know us by now. It’s just about making things a little bit better for the families around here without making it a big corporate production. We take things one day at a time and see what needs to be handled next.
