Dharti Medical & Provision Stores

If you walk down the street in Sevaliya, you will find us sitting here at Dharti Medical & Provision Stores. It is a combined kind of place because that is what works best for a town like this. We have the medicines on one side and the daily household goods on the other. It makes for a bit of a strange mix sometimes, like smelling soap and antiseptic at the same time. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so I have to use a small metal ladder that rattles whenever I climb it to get something from the top. The morning starts with unloading a few crates that the delivery truck leaves near the front. Sevaliya can get very dusty, so I spend a lot of time with a duster trying to keep the packets looking clean. The counter is made of heavy wood and has a few deep scratches from years of moving heavy boxes across it. I usually keep a bottle of water tucked under the desk because it gets so hot in the mid-afternoon. People from the nearby houses come in for their monthly supplies or just a quick snack for their kids. There isn't anything grand about the shop, it is just a practical space where we work every day. We know which floorboard creaks when you step on it and which light bulb is likely to burn out next. It is just home to us.
