Tukaram & Co, Chartered Accountants

Our office is tucked away in R.R. Peta, over in the Chodavaram Mandal area of Visakha District. It’s a bit of a drive if you’re coming from the main city, but it’s a nice enough place to work. Tukaram & Co has been here for years, dealing with the daily grind of accounting. The building isn't new, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for us. We spend most of our time staring at spreadsheets or going through old physical ledgers that people still bring in. There is a specific smell of old paper in the back room where we keep the records. It’s a small team, so we all know each other’s business. We don't have a fancy coffee machine, just a kettle and some dusty mugs. When the monsoon hits, the rain on the roof makes so much noise we can hardly hear each other talk. But we just keep working through it. The local businesses around Chodavaram usually drop by with their bags of receipts. We sort through them and try to make sense of everything. It's practical work. We don't use big words or try to act like we're in a high-rise in Mumbai. We’re just here in the 531023 zip code, doing what needs to be done with the books. It’s a lot of adding and subtracting, day in and day out, making sure everything is in order.
