Sunshine Higher Secondary School

Sunshine Higher Secondary School is right on the Main Road in Nathavaram, so you can’t really miss us if you’re traveling through. It’s a busy spot, and the noise from the lorries passing by can be a bit much during the middle of the day. The school itself is an older building with a lot of character, meaning some of the doors stick and the plumbing needs constant attention. We have a small courtyard in the middle where we do the morning assembly, provided it’s not raining too hard. The walls are decorated with some old charts and student drawings that have been there for years. We don't try to look like one of those expensive city schools; we’re just a local place for the kids in this part of Nathavaram. The staff is mostly local people who’ve been here since they were young themselves. We deal with the usual problems like power cuts and the heat, just like everyone else on this road. There’s a big tree near the front gate that provides some much-needed shade for the parents waiting to pick up their children. It’s a very straightforward operation. We open the gates at eight, teach the classes, and try to keep things organized despite the chaos of the main road just a few feet away. It’s a tiring job, but it’s our routine and we’re used to the dust and the noise by now.
