Sarbjot Singh Behl Architect is located at C-48 on the Guru Nanak Dev University Campus. Being based on a university campus gives the whole practice a slightly different flavor. It isn’t like an office in a commercial mall or a downtown high-rise. Here, we are surrounded by students and academic life, which keeps things interesting. I’ve been involved with the university for a long time, and my architectural work is tied into that environment. The office is a practical space where I handle various projects, ranging from campus improvements to private commissions. It’s often a bit noisy outside with students passing by, but I’ve grown to like that atmosphere. My approach is pretty simple and I don't use a lot of fancy words to describe it. I just look at the site, listen to what is needed, and start drawing. There is a lot of back and forth with different departments and clients, and my desk is usually buried under folders and site maps. I don't have a big marketing team or a polished image. I just rely on my years of experience and the work I’ve done around here. Architecture to me is just about making sure things are functional and that they fit into the surroundings. I spend a lot of time walking around the campus and looking at how the old buildings are holding up. It’s a steady kind of life, and I just keep at it every day.
