Rawal Singh Aulakh Architect

Rawal Singh Aulakh Architect is basically just me and a small group working out of the Department of Architecture at Guru Nanak Dev University. It’s a busy place. Most days, you’ll find us surrounded by rolls of tracing paper and half-finished models. Since we are right here on campus, things feel a bit different than a regular commercial office. We spend a lot of time talking about how buildings actually work rather than just how they look on a computer screen. It’s not always quiet, especially when students are around, but that energy helps. We’ve been at this for a while now. Some days are just filled with phone calls to contractors and trying to figure out why a particular material isn't arriving on time. We don't have a fancy reception desk or anything like that. People usually just drop by and we sit down wherever there’s a clear spot on the table. It’s practical work. We deal with the local climate and the way people here actually live. Sometimes the drawings get a bit messy, and the coffee is usually cold by the time we drink it. It’s just how it goes when you’re deep into a project. We try to keep things straightforward and honest. There’s a lot of history in this university setting, and being part of the architecture department means we are always thinking about the long term. It’s just us, doing the work, day in and day out.
