Raj Kumar General Store

Raj Kumar General Store is sitting right at Shop No. 13 in the Main Market of Rishi Vihar. Being in Amritsar, the market gets quite busy during the day with all sorts of people walking past. Our shop isn't anything fancy, just a regular place where you can find your daily needs like soap, lentils, or some biscuits. I spend most of my time behind the wooden counter, either dusting off the shelves or writing down what we need to order next in my old notebook. The morning starts early here when the milk crates arrive. It can get a bit dusty because of the traffic in the Main Market, so I have to wipe the jars pretty often. People from around Rishi Vihar stop by to chat for a minute while they pick up their groceries. We have a ceiling fan that makes a bit of noise but it keeps us cool enough when the Punjab sun gets too hot. The shelves are packed with all kinds of packets and bottles, and sometimes it takes me a second to remember exactly where I put the smaller items. We don't use any computer systems, just the basic way of doing things. It's a small space but it works for us. You get to know everyone's name after a while. If you are walking through the market, you will see our sign. It's just a simple life here at shop thirteen, keeping things moving and making sure the stock doesn't run out.
