Patel & Company

The Timber Market over at Lakkad Kot is where we set up shop. Patel & Company is right in the middle of all that wood and sawdust. It is an interesting place to have a business because you are always surrounded by the sound of saws and the heavy thud of timber hitting the ground. We have a small office space that we try to keep clean, though the dust always finds its way in somehow. Most of our day is spent talking to people who come through the market looking for various things. We have been at this location long enough that the postman does not even have to look at the address anymore. It is a very straightforward way of life. We have some chairs for visitors, but they are usually covered in some papers or a spare jacket. There is no air conditioning here, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it is on high. We deal with whatever comes our way, whether it is a big order or just someone asking for directions. The Lakkad Kot area has its own rhythm, and we have just become a part of it over the years. It is not a glamorous spot, but it is honest work. We open the shutters in the morning and stay until the market starts to quiet down for the night. That is pretty much how it goes for us every day of the week.
