MUDH Deepali Architect

Our little office is located at B-574 on the first floor in Ranjit Avenue. It’s actually part of the house belonging to Mrs. Sunita Kiran, so it has a very personal, local feel to it. Deepali is usually here at her desk surrounded by stacks of paper and samples of hardware that never seem to find a permanent home. Working out of a residential area like Ranjit Avenue means we get to see the neighborhood change day by day. The office isn't large, but it’s enough for what we need to get through the day's tasks. We spend a lot of time on the phone or sitting with people at the small table we use for meetings, looking over sketches and trying to figure out how to make a kitchen bigger or a balcony more useful. There is no corporate polish here. We have a mismatched set of chairs and a printer that sometimes decides not to work when we are in a hurry. Most of the work involves a lot of back-and-forth between what someone wants and what is actually possible to build. We often find ourselves heading out to sites in the afternoon to check on the progress of a wall or a roof. It’s just simple, straightforward work, trying to make sure things are built correctly and that the plans make sense for the people living there. We don't have a big staff, so when you call, you're usually talking to the person doing the drawing.
