Mahajan Gen. Store

Ram Bagh Bazar is always moving, and we are right in the middle of it here in Amritsar. Being on Amritsar Road means there is never a quiet moment from sunrise to late evening. Our shop, Mahajan Gen. Store, is just a regular place where you can find almost anything for the kitchen or the bathroom. We have piles of soaps, different kinds of shampoos, and big jars of sweets for the kids. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so we have to use a small wooden ladder to get things down. It’s a bit rickety, but it works. We get a lot of people walking through the bazar who just pop in because they saw something in the window. The floor gets muddy when it rains, so we keep a piece of old jute sack by the door for people to wipe their shoes. We don't spend money on advertising or anything like that. Word of mouth is how people find us. My hands are usually covered in flour or dust from moving the sacks around. It’s hard work, especially when the new stock arrives and we have to carry it all inside from the main road. The traffic is a nightmare sometimes, but that’s just part of being in a busy bazar like Ram Bagh. We keep our prices fair and just try to get through the day's tasks without too much trouble.
