Out here in Daullo Nangal, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We are set up at Naveen Kumar’s place, which also happens to be near the local post office. If you are coming through Tehsil Baba Bakala, you just have to ask for the village and most people can point you in the right direction. It’s a small community where everyone knows everyone else’s business. Maa Bharti Jan Sewa Foundation operates out of this spot. The office isn't anything special to look at, just a regular building in the village. We have some old wooden chairs and a couple of tables that have seen better days. During the rainy season, the roads around the post office get a bit muddy, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the floors. Naveen handles a lot of the day-to-day stuff here. It's a practical setup because it’s close to where people actually live. We don't have air conditioning, so we keep the windows open to catch whatever breeze comes across the fields. Sometimes the local kids play cricket right outside the door. It can get a bit loud, but we don't mind much. It feels like a real part of the neighborhood. We usually start early in the morning before the sun gets too high. There's always a pot of tea on the stove somewhere. We’re just local people trying to stay on top of the paperwork and help out where we can.
