You can find Harpunit Singh Mann Architect at B-1194 in New Partap Nagar, right off the G.T. Road. Being near the highway means it’s always a bit noisy outside, but inside we’re usually just working through the latest set of drawings. I started this practice to handle the kind of projects that people around here actually need. It’s a local operation. I do most of the drafting myself. The office is tucked away in a residential area, so it feels more like a home than a corporate space. People drop by without appointments sometimes just to ask a quick question about a wall they want to knock down or a new roof they're planning. I don’t mind. It’s part of being in the neighborhood. G.T. Road is a landmark, so I just tell people to look for the turn-off and they find me eventually. The work involves a lot of sitting at the computer and then walking around construction sites with a measuring tape. It's dusty and sometimes the weather makes things difficult, but that's construction. I try to keep the plans as simple as possible so the builders don’t get confused. It saves everyone a lot of trouble later on. There’s no big philosophy here. Just drawing lines that eventually turn into real buildings for people to live in or work out of. It’s a slow process, but we get there.
