Our location on the Majitha Verka Bypass Road in Amritsar is a bit out of the main city center, which means there is plenty of space. The bypass road gets a lot of trucks and heavy traffic, so it can get quite dusty outside during the dry months. Inside Fortis Escorts Hospital, we work hard to keep that dust out. We have several wings here, and it can be easy to lose your way if you aren't familiar with the layout. The staff knows every corner, though. Most of us have been working here for years. We see families arriving from the nearby villages and some from right in the city. It’s a mix of different lives. The morning shift starts with a lot of cleaning and restocking the supplies. We spend a lot of time on our feet. Sometimes the air conditioning is a bit too cold in certain rooms, so we tell people to bring a sweater. We don't have a lot of fancy decorations on the walls, just the necessary signs and some old clocks that don't always sync up perfectly. It’s a functional building where the main goal is just taking care of the patients who walk through the doors. We don't spend much time worrying about how things look as long as the equipment is working and the patients are looked after. It’s just a regular, busy hospital on a noisy bypass road.
