Dr Daljit Singh Eye Hospital

Dr Daljit Singh Eye Hospital is located at 1-Radha Soami Road, and that’s where we have been for a long time. People come here from all over because of the history of the name. It’s an eye hospital, so you see a lot of people wearing patches or those dark sunglasses after they’ve had a procedure. The atmosphere is pretty straightforward. We don’t have anything fancy in the waiting area, just the usual chairs and a lot of posters about how eyes work. The street outside, Radha Soami Road, is usually packed with cars and rickshaws, so it can be a bit of a challenge to get to the front door sometimes. Once you’re inside, it’s a bit calmer. We spend the day doing vision tests and helping people talk about their surgeries. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but it’s important for the folks who live nearby and further out. The building feels lived-in. It isn't one of those glass and chrome places you see in the fancy parts of town. It’s a functional hospital with tiled floors and windows that look out onto the street. We keep the files in big cabinets and try to make sure everyone gets seen in the order they arrived. It’s a busy life here on the ground floor, just dealing with whatever comes through the door each morning and making sure the lights stay on. We have coffee in the back when there is a spare minute, but that does not happen very often during the week.
