Derry Pure Real Fruit Ice Cream

Our place is at 11 Focal Point. It’s an industrial sort of area, so it’s mostly warehouses and factories around us. We deal with real fruit ice cream, which means we are always surrounded by crates of whatever is in season. Mangoes, berries, all sorts of things come through the doors. The main thing about working here is the cold. We have these big walk-in freezers that you have to be careful in. Most of the guys wear heavy jackets even when it’s boiling hot outside. It’s a strange way to work, switching between the heat of the loading dock and the freezing cold of the storage rooms. 11 Focal Point has been our base for a while now. It’s not a shop where people come to sit down and eat. It’s more of a production spot where we get everything ready. We spend a lot of time cleaning up fruit juice and making sure the machines are running right. There’s always a hum in the background from the refrigeration units. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the traffic around the industrial estate, which can be a real headache. But we just deal with it as it comes. It’s hard work, and your hands are usually cold, but it’s what we do. We don’t have a fancy front office, just a desk and a phone. It's enough for us to manage the daily routine.
