Billa General Store

If you ever find yourself on GT Road in the Chheherta area of Amritsar, you might notice Billa General Store. We are at Shop No. 7. It’s a high-traffic area, being right on the main road. The trucks roar past all day and night. It’s quite noisy, but we’ve stopped noticing it after all these years. Our store is packed with all sorts of general items—everything from batteries to snacks to household cleaners. We try to keep a bit of everything because you never know what someone might walk in asking for. The layout is a bit cramped because we keep adding new items to the shelves. Sometimes things are a bit hard to find, but we know where every single item is kept. We’ve had the same wooden counter for a long time, and it’s seen a lot of transactions. In the mornings, we usually have a cup of tea while waiting for the first few customers to arrive. It’s a local place where people stop by for a quick chat while they buy their cigarettes or biscuits. We don't have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a regular store for regular people. We work long hours, often staying open later than the shops further down the road. It’s hard work, but it keeps us busy and connected to the people living around Chheherta. We just take it one day at a time here on the GT Road.
