Bharat Wooltex

Malikan Bazar is a crowded place, especially in the winter. We are Bharat Wooltex, tucked away in Katra Ahluwalia. If you know the area, you know how busy the narrow lanes get with people looking for warm clothes. We deal mostly in woolens. It is a family thing that was passed down. We spend most of our mornings unpacking bales and checking the texture of the yarn. It is not a glamorous job. There is lint everywhere and the tea usually gets cold before you can finish it because a customer walked in. We do not bother with those big advertisements or shiny posters. People find us because they know the wool we keep is decent and it holds up. We have heavy blankets and shawls that people take back home to different parts of the country. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just keep working by the light from the door. It is part of the life here. My uncle handles the accounts and I look after the stock. We try to keep things simple. No fancy talk, just showing the material for what it is. You can feel the weight of it. In the summers, it gets a bit slower, so we organize the back room and prepare for the next cold season. It is a rhythm we have followed for years now. Just us and the wool in the middle of the market.
