Balbir Singh Architect. The office is at Wood Landers on 4 Queens Road. It’s an old-style place with some character. Queens Road has changed a lot over the years, more traffic now for sure. Balbir has been doing this for a long time. There are stacks of blueprints everywhere, some of them going back decades. We don't throw much away. It feels like a real workshop in here. There’s a big window that looks out onto some trees. We spend most of the day hunched over desks. Sometimes a client comes in and we spread out huge sheets of paper to show them the progress. We do houses mostly, but some bigger buildings too. It’s a lot of back and forth with the contractors. There’s always someone calling about a measurement or a material delivery. We try to keep it simple. No fancy computer renders unless they are really needed. We prefer the old way of doing things when we can. The air conditioner is a bit noisy but it keeps us cool in the summer heat. It’s a steady job. People know Balbir’s name around here. We just try to do honest work and make sure the buildings don't fall down. It’s a quiet life on most days, just the sound of pencils and the occasional phone ringing. We usually wrap things up by late evening when the street gets a bit quieter.
