B. Chattar Singh Jiwan Singh

Bazar Mai Sewan is where we have been for a long time. It’s a narrow area. We are very close to the Golden Temple. You can hear the sounds from there throughout the day. B. Chattar Singh Jiwan Singh is the name on our boards. It’s an old name. We just open up the shop in the morning and wait for people to come in. The street is always packed with pilgrims and local folks. It’s a tight squeeze sometimes with the carts and the rickshaws. We have lived and worked in this area for generations. The walls of our place are thick. It stays a bit cooler inside during the Punjab summers. We don't do much advertising. People just know where we are. We have our regulars who come by for a chat. It's a traditional kind of place. We handle things the old-fashioned way. No fancy computers or modern gadgets all over the place. Just the ledgers and the stock. The air smells of incense and street food most days. It’s a good spot to be, right in the heart of things. We see the seasons change from our doorway. Winter is cold but the tea is hot. We just keep the business going as it has always been. It’s simple and it works for us. We stay here until the evening when the bazaar starts to quiet down a little bit.
