Aulakh Rawal Architect

Our setup is a little different because we are located right inside the Guru Nanak Dev University campus. We work out of Residential Flat No. 1, which gives us a pretty quiet place to focus on our drawings. Being on the GNDU campus means we are surrounded by students and trees, which is a lot nicer than being in the middle of a noisy industrial area. Aulakh and Rawal started this together because we both have a bit of a passion for how spaces are used. We don't have a big staff or a fancy office suite. It’s just a flat where the living room has been turned into a studio. There are usually pencils and rulers scattered everywhere and a pot of tea on the stove. We spend our mornings looking over site plans and our afternoons on calls or visiting projects outside the campus. We aren't trying to change the world, we just want to design buildings that make sense for the people who use them. It’s a small operation and we like keeping it that way so we can actually focus on the work instead of managing a big company. If you are coming to see us, you have to come through the campus gates, but it’s worth the trip for the quiet atmosphere. We just do our best with every project that comes our way and keep things very simple.
